We are the Westerweels – Otto and Janine.
These days we are based in Wellington in the Western Cape, and we are still exploring our Winelands area after almost three years. So many wine estates, so little time…!
Wedding venues, markets, islands, game lodges and more
We found each other late in life and have now been together for nine years this year, and married for three. One of the things we will be sharing with you is some of our “Western Cape Wedding Venue” research. It took quite a bit of travelling around and searching to find the perfect spot to say our vows, so we know the anxiety involved!
The first challenge was to decide : did we want a Winelands wedding, a bush destination wedding, or did we want a beach wedding? Oh, the decisions…We finally decided on a beach wedding at Sunset Beach, where we lived at the time, which turned out to be magnificent in every way. Be warned though – there is a bit extra involved with beach weddings, like the permits for actually having the ceremony on the beach; and the logistics that go with set up. But find the right person, and you’re good to go!
This is just one of the many things we’ll be discussing as we go. Others will include the interesting markets around the Western Cape; island resorts in Mozambique; the best lodges to visit in the Kruger National Park and surrounds and more.
Janine’s two daughters have come back to live with us – we joke about the “boomerang generation”, but more on that at a later stage. Otto’s two children have moved back to the Netherlands to study, work and live. Our two fur-boys also share our home and are the light of our lives. They are a 14-year old cat called Roly and an 11-year old dog called Bullet.
Otto has worked in real estate all of his adult life. Janine has moved between real estate and tourism for most of hers. We both love to travel, explore, experience great places, good food and wine. Most of all, we love to share our experiences, whether they be good or not so good.
